Chiropractic for Sciatica

NATURAL RELIEF FOR SCIATIC NERVE PAIN

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is a painful condition caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body. It often starts in the lower back or buttock and travels down the back of one leg, sometimes reaching the calf or foot.

What is the Sciatic Nerve?

The sciatic nerve is formed by five nerve roots that exit the spinal cord in the lower back (L4 to S3). These nerves come together deep in the buttock and travel down the back of the leg, controlling both sensation and muscle function.

What does Sciatica  feel like?

Sciatica symptoms can vary but often include:
Sharp, shooting pain down the leg

  • Achy or toothache-like discomfort

  • Numbness or tingling (pins and needles)

  • Burning or electric shock sensations

  • Muscle weakness in the leg or foot

  • Difficulty standing, walking or moving freely

Symptoms may come on suddenly or gradually and usually affect one side of the body.

What causes Sciatica?

Sciatica is a symptom, not a diagnosis. It can be caused by a range of underlying issues, including:

  • Spinal misalignment, especially in the lumbar spine or pelvis

  • Herniated or bulging discs

  • Degenerative changes such as arthritis or bony spurs

  • Tight muscles in the low back or buttocks, particularly the piriformis

  • Postural stress, injury or prolonged sitting

Our chiropractors are trained to identify the exact cause of your sciatica and tailor care to suit your specific condition.
